Daily Devotional #1,807

There is a story out there about a guard, Domingo, who manned the gate of a huge meat processing plant in  Argentina. He would be there from morning until the last person left at night. That last person was always the  owner and when he passed through the gate, Domingo could head home. The day was over, and the owner  came through the gate and said “Well Domingo, we can go home finally!” Domingo said, “We can’t  go…Penny Berkowitz is still inside.” There were several huge buildings, and they searched through each one,  the main processing room, the office building, the truck dock and finally the refrigeration room where the meat  was locked up each night for quality control. They unlocked the door and there was Penny Berkowitz lying on  the floor, barely breathing. They got him out and warmed him up and Berkowitz revived. While they waited  for medical help the owner asked Domingo “How in the world did you know that Penny was still here?  Domingo said “Every morning Penny comes through the gate, and he asks “How’s it going Domingo? Have a  nice day!” And then every evening when he leaves, he tells me “Thank you Domingo, have a great evening.”  “Every day over a hundred people pass by as they go through the gate and say nothing to me. But he always  greets me and treats me like I’m somebody. I knew he hadn’t passed by me and so I was till waiting for him!”  A simple act of recognition and greeting made that much of an impression on this gate guard that he stayed at  his post…because there was someone who showed him kindness each day, when no one else bothered to do so.  We might not think of kindness as much of a part of our walk with this Jesus of the Bible, but that Bible tells us  that kindness is a fruit that becomes a part of our lives when God’s Holy Spirit is working in us and leading us.  There are all kinds of things you can do today, but let God create in you a kindness for the people around you.  Whether you know them or not, you may make a bigger impression on them and a sweeter impact for Christ  than you may ever know. And your kindness will certainly set you apart from the rest of the crowd out there!  Here’s our Bible verse for today…

Galatians 5:22-23 NLT But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience,  kindness, goodness, faithfulness, (23) gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
