A guy was talking about how short the life spans of some creatures actually were. Some were a few years and then there were those that lived only a few months. And it got down to a couple of days and finally a species called the American sand-burrowing mayfly has an adult lifespan is between 5 minutes to 2 hours! I remember some years ago we that we did a Bible study that was centered on the idea that you only had 30 days to live. The question was “What would you do with 30 days?” I asked the question of the church family one Sunday morning and I got all kinds of answers. But then one of my older buddies yelled out “I’d rob a bank!” We all started laughing as his wife wacked him with her purse. But what if you knew that your time was limited…what would you do? What would suddenly become important to you? The thing about that is if it was so important that you would use your last days or even last day doing that…why aren’t you doing it right now? Maybe it would be talking to the Lord more, telling someone you loved them, calling an old friend, mending an old rift in a friendship…or talking to a friend about how they could join you in an eternal relationship with God. So, what is keeping you from doing those things now? Think about what is really important in your life and how you want to spend your last time on this planet. Then go do it. There is no guarantee that you will have tomorrow or the day after. But you have today. Decide what is important…not only for today, but for eternity. Then go do it. And be thankful you aren’t on the clock like that American mayfly! Here’s our Bible verse for today…
James 4:14-17 BSB You do not even know what will happen tomorrow! What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. (15) Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord is willing, we will live and do this or that.” (16) As it is, you boast in your proud intentions. All such boasting is evil. (17) Anyone, then, who knows the right thing to do, yet fails to do it, is guilty of sin.
Remember I’m praying for you!
