I’ve heard people say that they just cannot believe in the God of the Bible. They have told me that there is just not enough evidence to convince them that he is there or that the Bible is telling the truth about him. I remember Chuck Colsen telling of an encounter with a refreshingly honest professor at a prestigious university who said he taught that creation was a false belief, and that evolution was real science to his students. Colsen wrote that this educator admitted that there was no credible evidence for what he was teaching. When asked why he taught what he didn’t truly believe his reply was “If I let myself believe that there is a creator, then I would have to bow down and worship him. And I will not do that.” I was reminded of that recently when I saw a post online where a young woman declared “If the Biblical God came down from heaven right now and stood in front of me and proved he exists, I still would not worship him.” Our coming to God is not prevented by lack of evidence…the Apostle Paul wrote to this 2,000 years ago in the first chapter of the letter he wrote to the Roman church. He said we only need to look at the world around us and see the power and nature of God. And that people really do know that God exists…but we humans make the choice to not worship him or give him thanks. The problem isn’t evidence for the mind, it is not loving the one who has created and provided for us. It is an issue of the heart. So let those know, who are keeping God at arm’s length, who this God is and what he is like by your life of kindness and goodness and love…and when the time is right… with your words. God won’t make people love him, but he will love them to the very end. And his call to us to love all those that God brings into our world with the hope and prayer that they too will come to know him and love him too. Here is our Bible verse for today…
Romans 1:19-21 NLT They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. (20) For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. (21) Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused.
Remember I’m praying for you!
