Christmas is over and I looked on my desk and I saw that I got the same present I’ve gotten for over a dozen years now…and I love it. It is a customized calendar with pictures of our granddaughters all through it in the year that has just passed. My wife is a photographer, and she takes shots from each month of the year and then the pictures are used to give me a reminder of different things that have happened and how much the girls have all changed. There are times when I go through and look at the other calendars when they were all so young (Yes, I save them all!). I remember those days fondly, but I am thankful that our girls are growing strong and beautiful! It would be heartbreaking if all those years had passed, and they still looked like infants and only did the things that infants do. I thought about that. As followers of this Jesus of the Bible, we are cautioned that we too must grow in Christ. So many believers are born again, but their spiritual picture, years later, looks pretty much the same as the day they started. There hasn’t been much growth or maturity. We are still in need of spiritual infant food, and we find ourselves doing spiritual infant things instead of maturing and growing up more to the image of Christ himself. Those pictures I have are great, but it would have been a tragedy if they had never matured or had never been weaned from a baby bottle. The same thing for us. We need to grow and to grow strong in the things of God. Otherwise, we end up just being the babies we became at our spiritual birth…and the potential of a whole life is wasted. So, let’s all look to growing this new year and we will do that by putting a priority in worshiping with the body of Christ, reading that book (the Bible) that tells us all we need to know to live successfully as God’s real children and then building a strong communication history with God himself through prayer. Do those things and when next Christmas comes around, we all will notice how much change has taken place and maybe we will hear from heaven “You are looking good and look how much you have grown up this year!” Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Hebrews 5:11-14 NLT There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don’t seem to listen. (12) You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. (13) For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. (14) Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.
Remember I’m praying for you!
