George III of England, America's enemy in the Revolutionary War, felt terrible about the loss of the colonies. It was said that for the rest of his life, he could not say the word "independence" without tripping over it. When the fighting in America stopped, King George and all his royal counterparts in Europe were sure that George Washington would have himself crowned "Emperor of the New World." That's what they would have done. When he was told that Washington planned to surrender his military commission and return to farming at Mt. Vernon, George III said, "Well, if he does that, he will be the greatest man in the world." George Washington did well. He gave up the opportunity to rule as others expected him to do and instead gave Americans liberty and the freedom to choose their leaders. I thought about that and couldn't help but remember what the Apostle Paul says about Jesus. He was God who became flesh and didn't hold on to the rights that he had but gave up everything to become like us...taking on the position of a slave...as a human being. And he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a death that he in no way deserved. He didn't rule like it was expected the Messiah would and instead walked away from the honor he deserved and walked to the cross that we might be free and forgiven forever. And the Bible says that the day will come when every knee that there ever was will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Don't wait for that...you can get a head start and humble yourself before him today and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father...and the greatest ever in the world. Here's our Bible verse for today...
Philippians 2:6-11 NLT Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. (7) Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, (8) he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal's death on a cross. (9) Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, (10) that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, (11) and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Remember I'm praying for you!
