A man's true situation is what he believes it to be, said philosopher Henry David Thoreau, and most men are so downtrodden with the unrelieved task of earning their living and serving their masters that they soon collapse into a leaden resignation, unable to believe that life holds any real happiness or reward for them. The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation. . . . That is a part of what Thoreau said he saw in the world around him. There is a lot of debate as to whether people are for the most part happy and hopeful. I suspect that there are a lot more people leading that life of quiet desperation than we are willing to believe. The Bible tells us that in Proverbs 23:7 that how a person thinks in their heart, that's who they really are. People need encouragement and hope. But where does a person find that hope that takes you from being unable to believe that life holds any real happiness or reward for them? The Apostle Paul wrote a reminder to the Ephesian church that there were days when they had lived apart from Christ. And they lived in this world without God and without hope. But he said that they were now united with this Jesus of the Bible. And he is the one who proclaimed that the enemy of all men and women and girls and boys came to steal and kill and destroy...and to crush their hope. But that he came that they...and you and me...might have life and have it to the fullest. We will live one of two ways in our journey of life on this earth. It will be either we believe that life doesn't hold any real happiness or reward for us. Or we will accept God's invitation to be brought near to him and walk through this world with God and with hope. Life is short...eternity is forever...choose to go each day with this Jesus of the Bible. Here's our Bible verse for today...
Ephesians 2:12-13 NLT In those days you were living apart from Christ. You were excluded from citizenship among the people of Israel, and you did not know the covenant promises God had made to them. You lived in this world without God and without hope. (13) But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ.
Remember I'm praying for you!
