How many times have you heard that you ought to read your Bible? I bet it has been a lot! The Bible claims to be God’s word to us and that it has the ability to inform, comfort, inspire and speak to our current situations. It claims to be living and active in a way that no other written work is or can be. Ok, we know that we ought to do it…but do we? Probably not…or not as much as we ought to. I read a story that the Institute of Biblical Research had done a study on the effects that reading the Bible was reported to have on individuals. It said that for those who read the Bible once a week…there was no discernable effect. For those who read the Bible two to three times a week…there was a bit of change, but it was so small that you might see a bit of a change, but it wasn’t really obvious. But for those who read the Bible four or more times a week…they found some significant things happening to people. For those who read four to seven times a week…they were more likely to share their faith with someone else, they were incredibly more likely to memorize and remember scripture passages, and there was a significant drop in feelings of loneliness, depression and anxiety. It sure sounds like it would be worthwhile to give it a try. Why not just test it out…not just for a week, but for a season of time? See what changes God might make in the way you view the world and make choices in life. I think there is a principle at work here. When the Word (the Bible), not the world and its values, becomes the major player in your life…your journey here on earth changes. So, take the challenge. Dust off that Bible or get Amazon to deliver you an easy to read and understand version and see what God will do for you. You’ve got nothing to lose…and a whole life to gain! Here’s our Bible verse for today…
