I read a story about some years ago St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City was seeking a new president. Over one hundred candidates applied for the position. The search committee narrowed the list to five eminently qualified persons. Then somebody came up with a brilliant idea: let's send a person to the institutions where each of the five finalists is currently employed, and let's interview the janitor at each place, asking him what he
thinks of the man seeking to be our president. This was done and a janitor gave such a glowing appraisal of the guy at his school that he was selected President of St. Paul's School of Theology. I like that. And it makes me think of what Jesus did. The Bible says that it was God who became flesh and dwelt among us, starting at that first Christmas. And he became one of us and all of us were important to him. He paid a high price for just being with us and like us. But he did that to let us know that we were somebody to him. .That we were loved to death by him...literally. He taught us and reassured us of God’s great love for people and called us to do the same. And because of our brokenness caused by sin there was no way we could come faultless into his holy presence. And so the plan, that was set in place before time began, was that he would step in and pay the price for the justice of our sin. And we can now be free...if we want to be. One of the most precious names for this
Jesus of the Bible is Immanuel...which means God with us. Not just in spirit or in memory or in intentions. God came and lived like us and hurt like us and told us that he indeed did...like us. So today, remember that God wanted you to know, that he knows what it is like to be human. So come to him as a friend and pour your heart out and tell him your dreams and pray for your requests. Remember he is never far from you, and you are never a bother or not worthy of his attention and care. Because to the God of the Bible you are always somebody. And somebody worth the very best he could ever give.
Here’s our Bible verse for today...
Philippians 2:4-8 NLT Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. (5) You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. (6) Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. (7) Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, (8) he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
Remember I’m praying for you!
