Daily Devotional #1,587

I ran across a story of a lady who was comforting her son after both grandparents had died within a year. She said “A few weeks after the death of my father-in-law, I found my seven-year-old son crying in bed. His grandmother had died the previous year, and he was taking it all very hard. ‘You know, Kyle,’ I said, ‘when we die, we'll get to see Grandma and Grandpa again in heaven.’ With tears spilling down his face, Kyle cried, ‘That's easy for you to say. You don't have that long!’” It reminded me of when my Mom was alive she would describe her getting older this way... “You know, I’m up to bat right now...but you remember that you are on deck!” Time goes by faster than we realize. Life here on this earth isn’t really that long when you think about it. As a follower of Jesus we should be concerned with living carefully. The Apostle Paul even wrote “Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise.” God wants us to make the most of every opportunity that he opens up for us. To make our lives count for him. To do that the Bible charges us to not act thoughtlessly, but to understand what God wants us to do. And we find that out be staying in close contact with God through prayer, reading that Bible and worship with other people. You make feel like you are in the dugout of life right now. But before you know it, you’ll be right there walking up to the plate, because you are up to bat! Fill your days with God’s presence and live them out with life and love and even laughter!

Here’s our Bible verse for today...

Ephesians 5:15-17 NLT So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. (16) Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. (17) Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.

Remember I’m praying for you!
