Daily Devotional #1,564

I have been losing weight…in a good way! Some of us family members were going on an adventure last October and we decided that we needed to be in good shape for it. So, I have been following the examples of my fellow adventurers in getting in good exercise and curbing what I eat. One of our group was weighing all the food eaten on a gram scale. I thought that was pretty extreme until I saw the results. So, I began to do the same and then I wrote down all the calories I ate in a log book. I try to record the calories of everything that I eat or drink with the goal of not going over a certain amount. This has been going on for over a year and a half now and it has worked. One of the things that I realized was how much I was actually eating at each meal and then each day. Those calories added up and often added up quickly! I’ve thought about how shocking it was to me to realize the calories that I was taking in each day…but there was the record in my book to remind me what I had done. I got to thinking about that and remembered a psalm, where the psalmist is asking God for mercy. He says if you kept track of iniquities…who could stand? Think about that…what would that list look like each day? But he acknowledges that with God there is forgiveness and because God has promised that is what he will do, there is no book of sins that follows us around, reminding us of all that we have done against God and his loving nature. So, keeping a record of your “caloric sins” might be a good thing…but you don’t have to worry that there is a list of all those things that you need to be fearful will be presented to you and the world by God. God wants to forgive you and all you need to do is to trust him and put your hope in him. Jesus died to pay for all those sins and because of the blood that was shed on the cross, we can live forgiven, looking forward to the future with God with hope and joy.

Here’s our Bible verse for today…

Psalms 130:1-5 BSB Out of the depths I cry to You, O LORD! (2) O Lord, hear my voice; let Your ears be attentive to my plea for mercy. (3) If You, O LORD, kept track of iniquities, then who, O Lord, could stand? (4) But with You there is forgiveness, so that You may be feared. (5) I wait for the LORD; my soul does wait, and in His word I put my hope.

Remember I’m praying for you!
