Daily Devotional #1,559

When I was a kid, I got to go to Philadelphia with my family and we went to Independence Hall. It was restored to look very much like it did in 1776. And outside on a platform was what we call the “Liberty Bell”. It used to hang up in the tower of Independence Hall which at the time was the Pennsylvania State House. It was hoisted into the tower in 1751 and the first time it rang…it cracked! The metalworkers immediately melted down the bell and cast the new one right there in Philadelphia. On the bell is an inscription from the Bible which reads “Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land Unto All the inhabitants thereof.” No one paid much attention to what was on the bell and it was rung 25 years later to announce the signing of the Declaration of Independence. That scripture reflected what was happening in July of 1776…and most had no idea what had been inscribed on that bell 25 years before. When Jesus began his ministry, one day he was invited to read from the Old Testament scriptures and comment on them in the synagogue in his hometown of Nazareth. This is what he read that day… Luke 4:18-19 BSB “The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to release the oppressed, (19) to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” And then he said that this had been fulfilled that day right there in front of them. The gospel of Jesus Christ changes everything. Our eternal destiny, how we look at the world and even touches the heart of what we believe we are as a nation. The 4th of July is just a couple of days away…so get ready to celebrate well…and remember that this gospel proclaims liberty…in every way, to all who would accept it and remember the one who purchased the ultimate liberty for us.

Here’s our Bible verse for today…

Leviticus 25:10 KJV “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof..”

Remember I’m praying for you!
