Daily Devotional #1,537

A couple of nights ago, I couldn’t get a diet coke from one of our McDonald’s in our town. The coke was flat, and they couldn’t come up with any ice, so I gave up after three tries there. I went home and then remembered that I needed to pick up a couple of things for church the next day. So off to Walmart I went…and then it hit me…they have a McDonalds inside the store! It was getting late so I rushed through my shopping and checked out and as I ran up to the McDonalds, I saw that the metal guard was pulled over part way…she was getting ready to close. It was just her and one customer and so I jumped in behind him and she gently said, “I’m sorry, this is my last customer.” I said “I don’t want any food; I just want two diet cokes. I tried three times to get them elsewhere and if you could see your way to let me have those, I would appreciate it so much”. She reached for the cash register and said, “I can do that for you!” I told her that she had saved my day and that I appreciated her kindness…and she told me that it was her pleasure. And so armed with large diet cokes for me and my son, I went home happy. I thought about the fact that she didn’t have to serve me…and that I had added just one more thing to her day before she could leave. But she never stopped smiling and let me know that she was glad to do this for me. I thought about the lesson that I had earlier on patience…and now I got a lesson in kindness. God seems to teach us something in everything we do. I don’t know if that lady was a follower of this Jesus of the Bible…but she sure did act like one. And as my day ended, she gave me an example of what my response to people ought to be. So, today, look for ways to show kindness to someone else…it just might make their day…and you will make God look good!

Here’s our Bible verse for today…

2 Timothy 2:24 NLT A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people.

Remember I’m praying for you,
