I went to the store to do some grocery shopping and one of the things that I was to pick up was a box of cereal
that we all like. As a matter of fact, it has become such a part of our regular diet that we usually have a couple
of the “Mega” sized boxes ready for us on top of our refrigerator. So, I ran out to grab the things on “the list”
and grabbed the Mega sized box like I always do and put it up on the fridge. I came back a couple of hours later
and realized that something was wrong. They were two completely different sized boxes. I had gotten the
wrong one…mine was smaller. I knew I was rushing, but I thought for sure I had the right one. So, I pulled it
down and looked at the box and I wasn’t wrong…it said all the right things…but it sure looked smaller. And it
was and it had almost a half a pound less cereal in it…for the same price! I was pretty disappointed when I
realized what they had done. I paid the same price, but I didn’t get what I was hoping for. I thought about that
and remembered that the Bible tells us in the book of Romans that when we run into problems and trials, God
doesn’t waste them. He uses them to help us develop endurance and endurance develops character and
character strengthens our hope. And this hope will not lead us to disappointment. We are going to be
disappointed regularly in this life. But God promises us that when hard things and hard times come to us…we
can rejoice. Because if we will continue to trust in God’s love and goodness to us, we will have hope that will
not lead to disappointment. And the key to continuing in our faithful walk with God is understanding that God
has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. So, remember, that companies out there will
disappoint you as they give you less for the same price, but God will give us the ability to rejoice in the hard
times, because God will never short-change you. Because you are dearly loved, you will be filled with
overwhelming hope for today and hope for tomorrow!
Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Romans 5:3-5 NLT We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. (4) And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. (5) And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
Remember I’m praying for you,
