Daily Devotional #1,524

I watched the movie “The Boys in the Boat” and I liked it. It was based on the true story of the University of Washington “Crew” team that upset all the U.S. teams and qualified for the 1936 Olympics. They were underdogs on the West Coast and then the East Coast and then went up against the best in the world in Germany. As the young men were training for competition, they were told that the key was for each man to work together with every other man in the boat. Each one was giving his all and doing his best. And each man was counting on every other man in the boat. The movie tells how they won the gold medal, eight men rowing to a coxswain’s commands. And they were continually reminded that they were not nine men…they were one. And each man came to understand that this venture was not about them…it was about the boat. And they all were in the same boat! I thought about that and it sounded a lot like who we are to be as followers of Jesus Christ in that we are not Lone Rangers…we are a team. God has given each one of us gifts and talents that we use in the life and ministry of the church. We are all different and differently gifted, but we are one in Christ. And as we go through life, it isn’t about us…it is about this Jesus we have come to know and now serve. So as a believer, remember that we must work together. And each one needs to do their best…and we need to be able to count on everyone else “in the boat”. We are all different and gifted differently. But we are one in Christ. So make sure that you serve and serve well as part of that “spiritual team”. We are called to be one together. And remember, it isn’t really about you…it is about Christ…and his church. And no matter how you choose to respond…we are all in the same boat! So do your best, be your best and let God make you spiritual champions!

Here’s our Bible verse for today…

Romans 12:3-5 NLT Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us. (4) Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, (5) so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.

Remember I’m praying for you,
PJ
