I grew up as a San Francisco Giants baseball fan. I can remember my dad and me watching games on our black
and white television. It was exciting to see Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, the Alou brothers and other
legendary players. One day my grandfather asked my dad if he and my grandmother could take me to a Giants
game at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. A group of their friends were chartering a bus, and they were going
to take me and my cousin to see a real major league baseball game! We got there and I remember us walking
through endless concrete until we got to the section where our seats were. We walked into the open and I
couldn’t believe my eyes! The Giants were playing the Cubs and as I looked out at the field, I couldn’t believe
how wonderful the colors were! I had seen printed pictures of players in their uniforms that were in color, but
here before me was grass greener than anything I’d ever seen, and the uniforms were like something from
another world. I sat down in my seat and all around me was a world of baseball I’d never seen. That’s kind of
how the Bible talks about how much we know of God right now as we make our journey of life on this earth.
We think we’ve got a pretty good handle on who he is and what he is doing. We don’t. We are told that all we
know of him now is like a cloudy picture. And it rightfully gets us all excited…but the Bible reminds us “You
ain’t seen nothin’ yet!” So, you and I will enjoy and worship and treasure our experience with God in these
days…but we can’t even imagine what we will experience when we see him. So enjoy this life with the God
who loves you so very much, but always remember that the best is yet to come! And the game…well it was one
of the most boring ones ever. Hardly anyone even got a hit. The score was tied 0 to 0 after nine innings. In the
tenth, the Cubs didn’t score. The Giants got up and Willie Mays came to the plate. He took one or two pitches
and then hit a home run over the right center fence…best game ever!
Here’s our Bible verse for today…
1 Corinthians 13:12 CEV Now all we can see of God is like a cloudy picture in a mirror. Later we will see him face to face. We don't know everything, but then we will, just as God completely understands us.
Remember I’m praying for you,
