I love the old story of the Mom and Dad who dropped their young son off in Sunday School and then headed off
to the worship service. When they were done, they retrieved their son and got in the car for the ride home.
Mom turned around and asked their son what they had learned in Sunday School that day. The son cheerily
replied that they had learned all about Enoch. Now there is very little said about Enoch in the Old Testament
and they knew the scripture that says Enoch lived 365 years, walking in close fellowship with God. Then one
day he disappeared, because God took him. So, they asked their young son to tell them what he learned about
Enoch. “Oh, it was great. God and Enoch were really good friends. Every day they would go on a walk, and
they would walk and talk and walk and talk. And then one day they walked and talked for so long that it was
really late and God turned to Enoch and said ‘Enoch, it is late and look how long we have talked and look how
far we have walked. We are so much closer to my house than we are to your house. Why don’t you just come
on home with me?’” I like that little story. I like that Enoch was known for walking with God. That he had
such a close relationship that they could enjoy each day together. And I’d like to have that experience where I
have walked close enough and long enough with God that one day he could say to me… “Look how late
it has become and how much we have talked and how far we have walked. We are closer to my house than
yours now. Why don’t you just come on home with me?” That should be the aim of every follower of this
Jesus of the Bible. That when our journey ends on this earth that we would hear God say to our hearts to come
home with him. To a place that has been prepared for you…where there are no more tears or suffering or pain
or death. Come to the place that you can truly call home. If you haven’t been walking with him lately…get out
your spiritual walking shoes and get started today. God is waiting to walk and talk with you.
