We have lights outside of our house that go on at dusk each night. Years ago, we had someone break into a car
we had in the driveway and some of the neighbors had things taken out of their garages when they left them
open. So, now when darkness comes, the lights go on. Now I don’t imagine that when a person, intent on
stealing stuff comes by, that they say “Look there is light all around that house. I must give up my life of
crime!” I don’t believe that’s happening. But I’m pretty sure that they look and say, “You know, it just isn’t
worth stepping into that lighted space and do my illegal deeds…it just isn’t worth the effort and the risk.” And
they move on somewhere else. The Bible says that there is one really bad individual who wants to steal, kill
and destroy whatever he can. And he is coming after you! He is doing all he can to oppose God and recruit
others to join him. He is called by the Bible the devil. We are told in the Bible that we are to humble ourselves
before God…but the devil…we are to resist him, and that if we do, he will flee from you. Now, when we resist
the devil, I doubt that he looks at our steadfastness for God and is thinking “You know, I should stop and
consider my evil ways and perhaps even change!” No…your resistance keeps him at bay, and it may just not be
worth it for him to spend the time and energy on you when there are so many others who can be so easily lured
and trapped by his wiles and lies. So, take a stand against what the devil tries to get you to believe, fear and do.
When you ask for God’s power to do that…you send that old devil down the road away from you. And I’ve got
a feeling that God is pretty pleased every time you and I do that. And pleasing God…well, you just can’t go
wrong doing that!
Here’s our Bible verse for today…
James 4:7 NLT So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
