Daily Devotional #1,474

Today, some parts of the United States will experience a total solar eclipse. And this will be the last one for another 20 years. It will be a narrow path where the total eclipse will actually be seen, and it will happen when the moon blocks the visible surface of the sun. It is said that in those places where the light of the sun is totally blocked, it will become like night. You will be able to see the planets and the stars in the sky because the sunlight will not reach you. And crowds that are camping out all along the slender path will experience that darkness. I thought about that. It seemed like an allegory of our times. People are rushing to places where the light of the sun is blocked off…and in our world, rushing to a place where the light of the Son is blocked off and living in darkness. Jesus said that he was the true light that came into the world. And the gospel of John leaves us with these words… John 3:19 NLT And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. So don’t be afraid to enjoy the wonder of this solar eclipse…it will come and go and you won’t have to worry about the light breaking through to you again. But for our own lives…we need to go to the light of Christ and live in that light. Because without it, our minds become dark and confused as the Bible says. So look for the light, look to the light and choose to live in the light.

Here’s our Bible verse for today…

Romans 1:21 NLT Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused.

Remember I’m praying for you…
