Joseph, of the Old Testament, was the son of the Old Testament figure Jacob. He had older brothers who were
jealous of their younger brother and even planned to kill him. They relented in the end and only sold him into
slavery. He ended up in Egypt and was a faithful servant and when he told a lady who made sexual advances
towards him that he could not do that, he was thrown into prison. And ended up practically running the
place. He did a favor for a couple of the Pharoah’s inner circle there in prison and asked that they remember
him when they got out. They forgot. We don’t know how many years had gone by since his own brothers sold
him as a slave, but the day came when the gifts that God had given him were needed by the Pharoah of Egypt.
And when he demonstrated the gift that God had given him, Pharoah made Joseph the second most powerful
man in the Egyptian Kingdom. Later, God arranged it so that his brothers were forced to come back to him,
humbled and in need. And there was a time when they were convinced that he would now have them
killed…which was his right as a leader in Egypt. But this man of God spoke to his brothers who had brought so
much grief and pain and told them this…What you did, you meant for evil…but God meant it for good, for the
saving of many lives. You may feel like Joseph today, not the powerful leader of one of the most powerful
nations on the planet in his time. But you may feel like the brother, hated by your own and treated
disgracefully. Or you may feel like the servant who does what is right and just…and are falsely accused and
convicted. Or even the prisoner who has befriended others and have only asked that you not be forgotten…but
you are not remembered. But know today that you are not forgotten by God. There are those who may try to
harm you or crush your spirit…but remember that God is still at work. He takes the evil that others do and will
work it together for his good…if you let him. So don’t give up. Your story isn’t over. God has a future for you
that will bring good to people and to this world and especially to his Kingdom!
Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Genesis 50:20 NLT You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.
