Daily Devotional #1,421

Years ago, I remember watching the comedy/drama detective show “Monk” and the theme song that introduced it. It said, “It’s a jungle out there!” We recently bought a couple of chickens and have enjoyed them living in our backyard. They don’t have the freedom to just wander around the yard because they live in a fenced in and covered enclosure where they can eat, drink and wander around looking for bugs. They are not there because we are trying to be unkind to them, but because there is danger out there…right in our backyard! The other day, my son called me over and quietly told me to watch the chickens. I did…and nothing happened. I mean nothing at all…they both were as still as statues. I looked at him questioningly and he just pointed up into the sky. And there circling over our hens was a hawk and the chicken’s only defense was to stand totally still with the hope they wouldn’t be attacked. What they didn’t know was that they were totally enclosed by a strong mesh fence that not only kept them in but kept the predators out. When you are a follower of this Jesus of the Bible God promises that he will be our protection, that under his outstretched arms we are going to be safe. And that our God will fend off all harm. When we are under God’s care, we will be ok. If we wander away…well, it’s a jungle out there…and we have no real, lasting protection. So, keep close to God and walk with him. It might seem confining at times, but he is just keeping you out of harm’s way. And that way you can live life boldly and you won’t have be…well, chicken!

Here’s our Bible verse for today…

Psalms 91:2-4 MSG Say this: "GOD, you're my refuge. I trust in you and I'm safe!" (3) That's right—he rescues you from hidden traps, shields you from deadly hazards. (4) His huge outstretched arms protect you— under them you're perfectly safe; his arms fend off all harm.

Remember I’m praying for you…
With love, Pastor Joe
