Daily Devotional #1,760

Matthew Henry was a wonderful preacher, writer and teacher in the early 1700s in England. He would not only  take care of his own church but was invited to travel and speak at other nearby towns. He would travel by
horseback and on one occasion, he was stopped by some bandits and robbed. He wrote about his experience  this way…
“Lord, I thank You:
That I have never been robbed before.
That although they took my money, they spared my life.
That although they took everything, it wasn’t very much.
That it was I who was robbed, not I who robbed.”
Henry demonstrated a freedom from the fear and worry that comes from our passion for material things. God  knows we need stuff. But his desire is that our focus in life should not be for stuff…even basic stuff. What he  wants for his followers is to put our focus on the Kingdom of God…and His righteousness. And he will see that  we will get what we need and more. So often we are consumed with worry about the tomorrows that are out  there. God invites each one of us to know the freedom from the excessive concern about the stuff of life. Focus  on a life with God and a life like God and give him a chance to come through for you in your daily life.  Remember he loves you and wants to partner with you in this life and is the God for whom nothing is  impossible! Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Matthew 6:31-34 BSB Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What  shall we wear?’ (32) For the Gentiles strive after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you  need them. (33) But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added  unto you. (34) Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has  enough trouble of its own.
Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
