In 1957 the “doo wop” group, the Monotones, recorded the hit song “The Book of Love”. It was incredibly popular and is still sung by revival groups bringing back the “oldies”. The line that folks remember was “I wonder, wonder, wonder who, who wrote the book love?” It became so popular that the small record company that had released it could not cope with the demand and had to be reissued by a major record company. I loved that song when I was a kid and still get a kick out of it any time it is played. I got to thinking about that phrase, “who wrote the book of love?” One person described the Bible as a love letter that came to us by God inspiring specific people to put his words and heart down in print. I heard another say that you can turn to the first chapter of Genesis and just before it, write in your Bible “Dear and your name” and then at the very end of the Bible just pen there, “With love, God”. The idea was to let those notes be a reminder that the Bible really is all about the love of God for people from the beginning of creation. There is lots of tough and rough stuff in that Bible…but it is always about God’s love for you and me. Even the judgements that are there are to blunt the evil that sin brings to people and destroys both life and love. So to answer the Monotones question “Who wrote the book of love?”…well, God did by inspiration through his Spirit in the hearts of those he selected to put it all down for you and me and everyone else so that we could know that we are loved and that this God is not only the author of love itself, but he is the one who wrote the book of love. Take time to read this love letter that was meant for you and me. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
2 Timothy 3:15-17 NLT You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. (16) All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. (17) God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
Remember I’m praying for you!
