Quail Lake Community Church

Daily Devotional #1,711

Some years ago, a guy in a church I was in was talking with me and said he wanted to tell me a story of  something that happened to him. He told me that he was representing a company and had to be in Chicago and  had finished his business and wanted to get back home as soon as possible. He had his airline ticket and was  being transported to the airport, and it was in the days when you could just run up to a gate and straight on to  the plane. The traffic was a mess, and he couldn’t get there in time. Needless to say, he was frustrated, and I  imagine a bit angry that he was going to miss his flight. He said he still has that ticket. He paused and said the  plane took off without me…and while it was accelerating down the runway, the left engine tore loose from the  plane, flew back over the left wing and smashed down on the runway. The plane was committed to take off and  the pilots tried to bring the aircraft up and then back around to the airport, but the engine had cut all electrical  power to the plane. It stalled and crashed less than a mile from the end of the runway. The crash killed all 271  people on the plane and 2 more on the ground. He told me that he didn’t know why God kept him out of that  plane, especially when he had been so angry at missing his flight. But he said now when something happens  that brings hurt, inconvenience or even pain…I wait and look hard to see what God is doing. Because I don’t  think most of us have a clue as to what God is doing in those times.
I don’t know what you are going through right now, but you may be asking God, sometimes through tears…  “Why are you letting this happen to me?” You don’t know…and I don’t know either. And we may not know  until this journey of life is over for us. But no matter where you are as we get ready to head into a new year,
know that God loves you and that even though you don’t understand what he is doing…someday you will.  Don’t quit, don’t give up. God loves you and is working this life of yours for good. Trust him today. Here’s  our Bible verse for today…

John 13:7 NLT Jesus replied, “You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.”

Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
