I went to the zoo the other night with my granddaughters and family. They had so many lighted figures and Christmas lights, it was just beautiful. We walked for a while and then a zoo employee asked if we had received a pair of these cardboard glasses. They were like the ones you used to get when they were trying to do a 3-D image in a movie. They gave each one of us and asked us to start looking at the lights. I put mine on and I couldn’t believe it! Every light you looked at…looked like Santa Claus! It was amazing. I was surrounded everywhere by the face of Santa Claus! There were thousands of them. I took the glasses off and I couldn’t see it any more…put them back on and there he was. I thought about that…I had another pair of glasses that I use for reading and I put them on and nothing happened. The lights were pretty, but like every other light display that I had seen. But with those little cardboard glasses…it was completely different. I thought about how life is like that. You look at life and the world and people and you see it in one way. But then, when you look at the world through the real account of Christmas and the Christ of Christmas…it all looks different. The world, the people, the possibilities are seen completely different. And it is in a good way. The world is no longer bleak and hopeless and the people are not just burdensome and irritating. It is now colored with the love and kindness of this Jesus. Christmas, real Christmas changes everything. About the world, the people…and about you and me. Read the story again today, on Christmas Day. And let God allow you to look through his eyes and see a world worth sacrificing someone so precious, just so that they might be saved. That’s Christmas. Enjoy your Christmas, no matter how you are able to observe it. But don’t let it slip by without taking a look all around you through the eyes of the God of Christmas. It could just change your heart and your mind…and your life. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Luke 2:13-20 BSB And suddenly there appeared with the angel a great multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying: (14) “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests!” (15) When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go
to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” (16) So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph and the Baby, who was lying in the manger. (17) After they had seen the Child, they spread the message they had received about Him. (18) And all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. (19) But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. (20) The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, which was just as the angel had told them.
