There is so much to love about all the accounts of that first Christmas. And there are a lot of personalities that are kind of revered there in Bethlehem…except one. And it isn’t a person that is identified, but we are told that Mary and Joseph ended probably in a stable because Jesus’ first bed was a manger. So we have reasoned that there had to have been a innkeeper…who said that he had no room for Mary, Joseph and Jesus. But, that little town of Bethlehem was packed with people who had come from all over for the census and even taxation. That part of the story cuts two ways. First, it reminds us of the willingness of our savior to be humbled, laying in an animal food trough. But also, it is a reminder to us that each of us is an innkeeper…and we will decide if there is room for Jesus in our lives…in our hearts. Towards the end of the Civil War, Emily Elliott wrote a hymn that I remember singing called “There is Room in My Heart for Thee”. The chorus goes like this “O come to my heart, Lord Jesus, There is room in my heart for Thee.” This is one of the things that every person on planet earth chooses in their life…is there room in your heart for Jesus? We will fill our hearts with all kinds of things seeking to satisfy the deepest longings of lives. And we will never find the kind of peace and satisfaction that we hunger for until we can say…Come to my heart, Lord Jesus, there is room in my heart for thee. He is knocking at that door…all you need is to answer it. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Luke 2:6-7 BSB While they were there, the time came for her Child to be born. (7) And she gave birth to her firstborn, a Son. She wrapped Him in swaddling cloths and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Remember I’m praying for you!
