I saw something online the other day and you never know how much truth there is in stuff that is put forth there, but this one thing really stuck with me. It was a series of little-known trends in how humans tend to react. The idea was that how you sit…the way that you position yourself as you are thinking about life… affects your memories. They didn’t insist that this was scientifically proven, but that there was a trend among people they had observed. They said that if you spend your time looking downward, you will tend to focus on painful and negative memories. But for those who tend to look upward, even to the sky, there seems to be some kind of trigger that brings a sense of happiness and joy. I thought about what the Bible says about looking downcast. That is the position and attitude of those who have or are losing hope. But the Bible encourages us to look to God in hope. And even though he is not just above us, we tend to position our bodies in that direction when we are earnestly seeking him. It is as though we sense heaven above us and we look up to him. And the Bible affirms that we need to look to God in hope. And the reason is that he has proven himself in the Bible over and again and then in our lives and the lives of others who trust him enough to call on him. The psalmist wrote that we look to God in hope and that God opens his hand to satisfy the hunger and thirst of every living thing. And the reason he does that is that he is righteous in everything he does, and he is filled with kindness. And that he is close to all who call on him and grants the desires of those who honor him and he hears their cries for help and rescues them. So, there is something there. Lift your eyes and your heart to heaven and call out to the God who promises to be with you each day of your life on planet earth. Take that small step of faith and see if he will trigger that happiness and joy in your heart and life today. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Psalms 145:15-19 NLT The eyes of all look to you in hope; you give them their food as they need it. (16) When you open your hand, you satisfy the hunger and thirst of every living thing. (17) The LORD is righteous in everything he does; he is filled with kindness. (18) The LORD is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him in truth. (19) He grants the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cries for help and rescues them.
Remember I’m praying for you!
