Quail Lake Community Church

Daily Devotional #1,670

One of the things that I often ask the kids in our church is "Do you have a best friend in school?" And just about everyone them has a youngster that they feel they can count on as a friend. We need friends, and if we feel we don't have one, life gets pretty tough. My mother used to tell me that when I was little, I had a friend. The problem was that it was a friend that I made up. But I had that friend with me all the time! As I grew up, I got to know more kids and developed friendships with real people and my pretend friend disappeared. And all of those friendships are precious. And then, one of the things that I learned about God is that he wants a friendship with me...and you! We don't often think of God in those terms...as a friend. We people are invited to come into a relationship with God, and Jesus said something in Revelation 3:20 that reinforces that truth that we are friends, when we are forgiven by him. He said that he stands at the door...of our lives...and is knocking. And if we hear him and open that door to our hearts, he will come in and we will share a meal together as...friends. God never stops being God. He never stops being powerful. He never stops being holy. And this is the one who says that he wants to be a friend to us. So when you pray to God or honor him in worship, remember that one declares himself as a friend to those who seek his friendship through accepting his forgiveness and love. And like a good friend, he begins to tell you things that others won't know. Some of those things will come from life experiences, a lot of them from the words in the Bible. But God will be whispering love and encouragement and direction if you are his friend. So keep that friendship fresh and alive by spending time with him. And if you haven't become a friend of God...check out that Revelation 3:20 and let your new forever friend come into your life. Here's our Bible verse for today...
Psalms 25:14 God-friendship is for God-worshipers; They are the ones he confides in.
Remember I'm praying for you!
With love, PJ
