Daily Devotional #1,668

Today we are going to recognize our military veterans. They did all kinds of jobs in the service of our country. And the thing was that they had no idea what they would be required to do or if they would be put in harm's way. But they went in and did their jobs knowing that all that could change in a moment. I had an uncle who had joined the navy and had lived a fairly peaceful existence in the service. But his battleship, the USS California was docked at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. And in an instant, everything changed, and he was in a shooting war. Everyone who puts on the uniform faces that possibility. I thought about how that is with us as followers of Jesus too. We sign up with him by accepting his forgiveness that was purchased on that cross so many years ago. It is wonderful to be forgiven and made right in God's sight by that gift. But we don't know what life will hold for us. There is no guarantee that we have a tomorrow that will be free from pain or fear or hurt or discouragement. But in our service to the Lord, we will always know that he is there with us. So don't forget that you can't predict the future. But you serve the one who holds the future! The task now is for us to keep our eyes on this God who loves us by being in his Word, worshiping with others and taking time to talk with him daily. Because when you give your heart to Christ, you are giving him a blank check on your life too. The good news is that he loves you and me and will keep us safe in him and make sure that we have that home in heaven no matter what might happen to us. Trust God to be your guide in every aspect of life today and in the tomorrows to come. And always remember that today and every day is a gift from him to you and me. So, live well and let him fill your days with love and life and even laughter. And don't forget to give him thanks for all he is and does and gives to you. Here's our Bible verse for today...

James 4:13-15 Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business, and make a profit." (14) You do not even know what will happen tomorrow! What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. (15) Instead, you ought to say, "If the Lord is willing, we will live and do this or that."

Remember I'm praying for you!
With love, PJ
