Daily Devotional #1,645

A buddy of mine is a real hands-on car guy. He loved working on his own cars and there was a time when he  would tinker around with mine as well. We were talking about cars and how to keep them running and he said  you know, the simplest, easiest and probably least expensive way to take of your car…is to change that oil when  it is due. He said that is one thing that you can do on a regular basis that may extend the life of your vehicle. I  took that advice and have tried to be as faithful as possible with every car I’ve had since then to go in for those  oil changes. I thought about that and saw that there was a spiritual equivalent to that. What is one thing that  you can do regularly to help keep you running well and long in your spiritual life?. It is simply to go to church  on Sunday. I know, there are all kinds of opportunities for us to listen to great sermons on TV and so many  more online. But being a follower of Jesus is not a solo activity. When you give your heart to this Jesus of the  Bible…you a part of a family, a team if you will. And each one of us brings something that no one else has.  Our worship together is a time and place where we stop our regular activities and purposely give God and our  fellow believers our presence, attention and love. It doesn’t cost much in time and effort and yet brings such  dividends to us, others and God himself. But like changing that oil in our cars, it not only needs to be done to  help ensure a “well-running” Christian, but it needs to be done on a regular basis. So do the easiest and one of  the least costly things you will do during your week in time, effort and even money. Go to church and keep that  believer (you and yours) running strong and faithfully. Here’s our Bible verse for today…

Hebrews 10:24-25 NLT Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good  works. (25) And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another,  especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
