Daily Devotional #1,628

I’ve always been a bit awed by men and women who can fly airplanes. To be able to handle a machine that flies through the air, with all the things that you have to know and remember just amazes me. They always have to be aware of all that is going on around them and what is happening in and to the plane itself. I saw a video the other day of the inside of a Boeing 767 cockpit. It all looked pretty complicated, but the main thing that the person making this wanted us to see was one of the side windows that could be opened by one of the pilots. He slid it back and printed in big, black letters on the metal slide were the words “Window Not Closed”. I thought, “Is that message really necessary for an airline pilot? If you can read this large message, that window is actually open! Do they sometimes forget that the cockpit windows of an airliner might be open or that just wasn’t important enough for them to notice? I guess we all have to be reminded of things that are very basic and yet pretty important! I thought about what the Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthian church about what was the most important thing for them to remember. He said that it was that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures...and then he was buried and on the third day (Easter) he was raised from the dead. That is pretty basic stuff...but it is really something that is most important to us. So, we need to remember what this Jesus of the Bible has done for you and me and everyone else. And, like that printed info on that window slide, we really need to not forget this which is the basis for all that we believe. There are and will be a lot of important things that will come into your life that you will be called to remember. But the most important thing ever is that God loved you so much that Jesus died on the cross for the forgiveness of yours, mine and everyone else’s sin. And beyond that, death could not hold him, and he was raised from the dead. And that stuff is printed for you and me too. It is right there in the Bible.

Here’s our Bible verse for today...

1 Corinthians 15:3-5 BSB For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, (4) that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, (5) and that He appeared to Cephas and then to the Twelve.

Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
