I remember reading that one of the causes of commercial airline crashes are the parts that they use. We know that everything is so expensive these days, but can you imagine what the parts to an airliner cost? One of the things that some airlines (outside the US) have fallen prey to are parts suppliers who provide faulty parts. The way this works is that they say that they are authentic parts for a particular plane and might even come in shipping containers with the original builders logos and info on them, yet they have been manufactured under conditions that are unlike the originals and often will use cheaper metals. When they are looked at casually, they seem the same and they will work...for a while, most of the time. But they aren’t the real thing. And when they are stressed, they fail, and people can be injured or even die. Fortunately, that doesn’t seem to be happening as much anymore. It takes someone special to be able to detect a fake. Jesus was called by a lot of different titles. People thought him a great teacher or a wonderful prophet. Some even thought that he was a prophet from the Old Testament that had come back to life...but not the Messiah...the savior of the world. Jesus asked his disciples one day who people thought he was. They came up with all kinds of titles and identities. And then Jesus asked the disciples who they thought he was. Peter who was always good for an answer to just
about any question said, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus said that he was right...he was blessed to know that. But Peter was no Messiah expert. Jesus said that his father in heaven had revealed that to Peter. The question is out there for each one of us...and we have to answer it at one time or another. Is this Jesus really the Messiah? Is he the real thing? The only way to God? Well, that’s what the Bible says and that’s what God can assure your heart...that he is the real deal. No imitation, no pretender, no fake here. So, if you are looking for the truth about who Jesus is...go look and let God persuade your heart. He will give you what you need to know that this Jesus of the Bible is indeed the one who pays for the forgiveness of any sin you and I have. And has forgiven you for any sin you will ever have...if you only ask. And you can have that, because this Jesus of the Bible is the real deal, and he has real love and forgiveness for you and for me.
Here’s our Bible verse for today...
Matthew 16:13-17 NLT When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” (14) “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.” (15) Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” (16) Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” (17) Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being.
Remember I’m praying for you!
