I have a wonderful program on my computer that allows me to find Bible verse easily in a number of different versions. The versions or translations are different because our English language is continually changing, and we have to keep changing the English words to communicate the same truths to people who are giving different meanings to the words they use. I can isolate out verses and then can copy them and paste them. There are
several steps that you have to follow, but it really is pretty simple. The other day I was copying a set of verses, and I knew I had done all the steps, but when I went to paste them into the page I was working on...they didn’t appear. My first thought was that my program had somehow failed. Because I knew in my heart that I had done everything right! I stared at the space where my verses were supposed to have landed and figured I’d better just go back and see what was wrong with the program. I opened it up and there were my verses...with a little box underneath that said “copy” ...that hadn’t been touched. I would have bet money that I had done all the steps...I knew that in my heart I had done all the steps. But I hadn’t. I hit the “copy” button and sure enough, it did what it was supposed to do. I thought about that. I knew that I had done what I was supposed to do...and yet, here it was right before me...that I hadn’t. We believe a lot of things about life and living and so
often we trust our hearts that we are doing the right thing. And yet the Bible says that the human heart is really the most deceitful of all things! So, if you can’t trust your heart...who or what can you trust? Well, the Bible makes the claim that we need to trust God. And in that claim...it says that we need to trust the Bible itself. Well, how do you know that the Bible is right? A lot of people don’t trust and say you shouldn’t trust it. But the Bible urges you to explore and to test it. To give it an honest chance to make God and God’s truth clear and
available to you. And then to give it a “test drive” and let God speak to your heart...and your mind. Give it a chance. But we are warned that your heart...well that is going to be the least reliable thing out there. Here’s what and who you can trust according to that Bible...
Don’t trust your heart...Proverbs 3:5... Trust the LORD completely, and don't depend on your own knowledge
Do trust God...Proverbs 3:6... With every step you take, think about what he wants, and he will help you go the right way.
Determine to line up your heart with God’s heart...Proverbs 3:7... Don't trust in your own wisdom, but fear and respect the LORD and stay away from evil.
Give God an honest chance to speak to you through his Word and to line your heart up with the God who is creator, savior and lover of all humans. Test it out and let God do his work of speaking to that heart of yours.
Here is our Bible verse for today...
Jeremiah 17:9 NLT “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?
Remember I’m praying for you!
