Sometimes I forget how rich I am. I turn on the faucet and I can get hot water any time I want. I have a car and can go to the grocery store and purchase what I want to eat. I have a kitchen where I can cook the food. I have a clean shower to get washed in. A lot of the time I forget how rich I am. So often we focus on what we don’t have or can’t do. And there are times when we don’t just forget to thank God, but we don’t see any real compelling reason to thank him. But God has blessed us with so much...and he does so each and every day.
You and I will not get every single thing that we think we need...and for that we ought to be thankful too! Followers of Jesus in other places in the world fill their worship times and prayers with so much thanksgiving and they have so little of the comforts and material things that are ingrained into my life. One of the things that will cause your prayer life and your worship experience to blossom is to make a practice, a discipline even, of giving thanks to God for everything. And remember, beyond the ordinary things of this life, God has given us his love and salvation through this Jesus of the Bible. And he makes no demands of us to receive forgiveness except to agree with him that we need it and ask for it. We are truly rich people in so many different ways. So show your gratitude to God...tell him thanks. And to those people who he has brought or will bring into your life, let each one of them know that you are thankful for them too. Gratitude is a powerful gift that you can bless both God and people with all through your day. So make it a habit to look for things to be thankful for, and before you know it, your heart will be trained to see the goodness of God all through your day. And to you...well, thank you for reading this!
Here’s our Bible verse for today...
Colossians 3:16-17 NLT Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. (17) And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.
Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
