Daily Devotional #1,613

I like trains and as I write this, I’m getting ready to go to a local “Train Show” where all kinds of folks gather to show off their stuff and have for sale just about anything you would want for trains. One train type that I have enjoyed has been my G scale train stuff. It is pretty expensive, but I’ve found some awesome deals over the years and received some pretty fun railroad stuff from my mom for Christmas when she was alive. One of the reasons I like these trains is that they are large enough to see detail and they are incredibly quiet. My main motivation to get them was so they could run quietly around our Christmas trees during the holidays. I’m going look today at all the stuff that is for sale, especially houses and buildings to put around the track. But I probably won’t buy anything because the cost is just not worth it. A while back I found a company that made houses and buildings at a really reasonable price. And they were kits that were pretty easy to assemble. I kept putting off
ordering one of them because even though they were way below everything else, I just figured I had all the time in the world to do that. And then one day I went to this company’s site online and it just said that they were no longer in business! There was no “going out of business sale” or even any warning that their products wouldn’t be available anymore. I think about that from time to time and it makes me think of other missed opportunities.
The Bible tells us that we ought not to get tired of doing what is good. And we are challenged to do good to everyone...whenever we have the opportunity. And we ought to really be sensitive to the opportunities to help out those in the family of faith. I bet a lot of us have seen things we could do for others and but put it off thinking that another day would be better than today. And often we just miss that opportunity to reach out and bring the gift of encouragement with our presence or our help. The Bible teaches that love is action. So put the love that you’ve received from this God of the Bible to work in building up others and as we say at our church “Do all the good you can while you can!” Because that opportunity to be God’s agent of goodness and grace my pass and that door might close...forever.

Here’s our Bible verse for today...

Galatians 6:9-10 NLT So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. (10) Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.

Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
