Daily Devotional #1,612

I read a short story where a guy was having a pretty animated argument with his neighbor over where the property line was between their two houses. He was going to build a fence and set it up just inside what he believed the property line was, but the neighbor was insistent that the builder was setting posts on the neighbor’s property. According to the story, the neighbor was so adamant that he not build the fence there that he actually pushed over the new fence posts. It got to the point where the neighbor brought in the police and told them the guy next door was stealing his property. The man building his fence insisted that he was clearly on his own land. So, the builder hired a surveying team, and they brought out the plot maps and determined the actual property line with their instruments...and the builder was in the right. He was telling the truth. But his neighbor thought that he knew the truth. They had to bring out the documents and the surveying equipment to decide who was actually right in their belief. I thought about that incident then thought about how there have always been debates as to whether or not the Bible is true. That whether what it says about God, people, sin and salvation is real. There are those who say they trust it to be true. Others say that they trust their own reason and that reason is proof that it isn’t true. The Bible speaks to that debate and declares that what is in it is indeed the word of God. So who is right? Well, like that property line argument...only one belief is true. The neighbor who lost could have and maybe did contest the legitimacy of the plot maps and even the surveying. So everyone gets to have their say...but the reality is someone is going to be wrong. The Bible claims that all of us are broken and are in need of rescuing by God. And you are going to either grab hold of the rope of salvation that is thrown down to you or just wave it away. I’m choosing to go with God and his Bible on this one. But everyone else gets to choose too. Choose wisely, because the Bible says that everything depends on what you decide on in this life. Choose carefully, because that Bible says we get one life to decide and that’s it. I want you to be on God’s side of “that line” in this debate. Because every tomorrow depends on what you will decide to trust as true.

Here’s our Bible verse for today...

2 Timothy 3:15-17 NLT You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. (16) All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. (17) God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
