Daily Devotional #1,608

For the most part, people don’t like to be different. So often when we find someone who is different, they actually want to be different like everyone else. The great Christian writer of the Chronicles of Narnia, C.S. Lewis once said “When the whole world is running towards a cliff, he who is running in the opposite direction appears to have lost his mind.” Jesus was different...and he pointed people in a whole different direction...one that focused on and led to heaven. And people thought he was nuts. He warned his followers that they would be different from others because of the life and belief that he called them to. As a Christian you are going to think differently, see people differently, called to act differently and to hope differently from everyone else. Why? Because the Bible says that all of humanity is running towards a cliff and you know what happens when you get to that cliff and don’t stop! But this Jesus of the Bible calls us to go in a completely different direction. And people don’t like to see others who are truly different. The Bible challenges us to challenge the status quo. To consider what God has said to us and to take him up on his promise of a better and eternal life. So the world may look at you as though you have lost your mind when you go against their direction. But the challenge is to not copy the behavior and customs of this world...but give God a chance to transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. When that happens a whole new world opens up to us and we can see God’s good purpose and plan that is born out of God’s love for people...all people. And as we dare to challenge the culture and the beliefs of the world, not with arrogance or pride, but with humility and genuine love and concern...we find that this plan that God has makes sense and it is indeed good and pleasing and perfect. You want to be a rebel? Then follow the greatest rebel ever, this Jesus who claims to be the savior of the world. The world...that’s you, me and all those we love and know.

Here’s our Bible verse for today...

Romans 12:2 NLT Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
