If you were there when Disneyland was young, you remember the theme song that was played at the park and on TV. It went like this...
“When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you.”
It was actually the character of Jiminy Cricket who had been appointed the official conscience to Pinocchio who first sang that in the 1940 Disney animated movie. The song took on a life of its own and went from a sweet tune to something that captured the imagination of one generation after another. It promised hope for our dreams if we would only make that wish...upon a star. The problem is that the wonderful star you see out there
in the heavens...is a luminous spheroid of plasma held together by self-gravity. That doesn’t hold much promise for your dreams to actually come true. But there is good news! The Bible claims that there is one who has created all the stars and has even named each one of them. The God who filled the universe with these beautiful lights of the night is the same God who knows the troubles that you face today. He knows your heart’s desires and he gives strength to all of us who feel weak or powerless. So do go out and enjoy the wonderous display that is there in the heavens for us each night. And don’t forget that the one who put them into place is the one who loves you more than any other created entity. And the next time you hear that Disney song...don’t be afraid to enjoy it but try taking that moment to whisper a prayer of thanks to the God who has created all of this heavenly display for you...and is the one who can truly make your heart’s desires come true.
Here’s our Bible verse for today...
Isaiah 40:26-29 NLT Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing. (27) O Jacob, how can you say the LORD does not see your troubles? O Israel, how can you say God ignores your rights? (28) Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of
his understanding. (29) He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.
Remember I’m praying for you!
