Daily Devotional #1,605

I love building models. Airplanes, ships, tanks and sometimes even cars. I got started as a kid. My dad built me a little yellow model of a Cessna airplane and I loved it and there began my hobby. I find myself buying more model kits than I put together these days simply because of the time involved. I pulled one out that I want to start on that is a kit of the U.S. World War II battleship the USS Missouri. It is special in a whole lot of ways, but it was the place where the documents finally ending the second world war were signed. That ship is now docked at Pearl Harbor and I’ve had a chance to wander all over it with a real sailor! I have pictures of the real ship and when I finish this model, it will actually look like that real one...only much smaller! As I was looking at the pieces that I would use to make this model, I thought about the time and effort it would take and what it would look like when it was finished. And I realized that this is what God is doing in me too. God’s plan for those who follow this Jesus of the Bible is for us to be conformed to the image or the likeness of Christ. For me, there is a lot of sanding, filling up of gaps and a great deal of detail work that is left to be done in me. But that is the big picture of what is going on in the life of every follower of Jesus. You are being shaped to be like Jesus. If you want a full description of what that will look like, just take a look at Paul’s letter to the Philippians, chapter 2. You’ll see that there is a lot of work to be done on and in all of us! But the end result is that we will look so much like the original, that we will bear a family resemblance to him who came to save all who want forgiveness from their sins. So when life sometimes seems hard or unfair or even painful...remember that God is using that to conform you to the very image of His Son. It may be uncomfortable or even hurt at times, but if you will let the master craftsman do his work, the finished work in you will achieve the destiny that God has for you.

Here’s our Bible verse for today...

Romans 8:29 BSB For those God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers.

Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
