Daily Devotional #1,599

A high school student was in a store and spotted his third-grade teacher. He didn’t think she would remember him, but he went up to her and said “Hi, Miss Spencer”! “Hi Jimmy” she replied. “So, you do remember me?” he asked. She replied “Sure...you don’t always leave a good impression, but it is a lasting one.” When I read that, I laughed a bit to myself, but I got to thinking about the truth of what was being said. I got to thinking about the fact that wherever we go, what we do and what we say make a lasting impression on people. And not just on the people we are interacting with...but with the people who are watching us, to see what the followers of Jesus look like and how they act towards others. If you are a follower of this Jesus of the Bible, you are called by God to act in a way to make God look good. The Apostle Paul says that we are to “lead a life worthy of your calling.” Tragically, some of the worst behavior out there many times comes from those who adamantly proclaim this Jesus of the Bible. And who knows how many bad and lasting impressions we leave behind. So, what does it mean to live a life worthy of your calling as a child of God? The Bible says that we are to be humble and gentle...and then to be patient with each other. We are to make allowance for each other’s faults. Why? Because of our love, not our personal agendas. We cannot live contrary to the love and kindness that God has shown us by insisting that it is our way or the highway. We are to make every effort to keep ourselves
united in the Spirit...and we do that by binding yourselves together with peace. Don’t think only about you and your agenda...think about the interests of others. That will take humility and that comes from the very spirit of God. So, remember that you are leaving behind an impression with every decision, every action and every word. Whatever that impression is will be a lasting one in someone’s mind. Make sure that the impression you leave is worthy of a child of God.

Here’s our Bible verse for today...

Ephesians 4:1-3 NLT Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. (2) Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. (3) Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.

Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
