Quail Lake Community Church

Daily Devotional #1,590

I’ve done it before and I’m going to do it again at church. I found out that the folks at my church love the sourdough baguettes from Sam’s Deli! Now when we get done with church, folks will usually hang around for a little bit afterwards. And I get a chance to visit with them and they with others. But if I bring a couple of loaves of that bread that I bought the day before, it is a game changer. We hold raffles for that bread by giving folks a ticket when they come in that might win them one of the loaves. When we get done with our worship time and I get outside, there is always a good group out there waiting for me to hopefully draw their number. It is all in good fun, but the folks will wait for that bread...because it is unlike any other. And it is so good! I got to thinking about that and what Jesus said about himself...that he was the true bread of heaven. And that the true bread of God is the one who comes from heaven and gives life to the world. The people wanted that bread and even said “Sir, give us that bread every day.” And Jesus said that he was the bread of life. And that if we would come to him, he would make sure that we would not have that deepest hunger that every human has...to be loved and forgiven and valued as a person of great worth. And if we come to him, we will never have that kind of hunger again. So, I will make sure that a couple of folks get that bread from Sam’s at church. But I hope even more that I will be able to make sure that my friends get that bread of life that will take away their deepest hunger and give them life eternal before they leave our church.

Here’s our Bible verse for today...

John 6:32-35 NLT Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, Moses didn’t give you bread from heaven. My Father did. And now he offers you the true bread from heaven. (33) The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” (34) “Sir,” they said, “give us that bread every day.” (35) Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

Remember I’m praying for you!
