My brother and sister and I did something we’d never done before. My brother set us up to go to a theme park on the other side of the country and when he began planning, the idea was that as many of our family could be a part of this. This was many months in the making and as time went by, family members dropped out because of conflicts of one sort or another. Finally, it was just my brother and sister...and me! We had never done this before. We are all grandparents and we had never spent any time on a trip...just the three of us. And so we headed out on our great adventure and spent over a week together...and had a blast! We took lots of pictures and my sister made sure that the photographers in the different parks got pictures of all three of us. My sister sent them to us and in looking at them I was shocked. I could see the family resemblance in us that isn’t there in our many pictures of us growing up. And even more so, I could see in their faces the images of our Mom and Dad. It was as though the older we got, in some way we look more like each other. I got to thinking about that and what the Apostle Paul said what would happen to the followers of Jesus. He said that if we continued in fellowship with the Lord, that over time we would become like him. One version says that we would be conformed to his image. He wasn’t talking about our physical appearance, but who we are and how we live as people. That we would be so much like him that it would be as though Jesus was the first born and we have become brothers and sisters and that folks can tell that we are now related to this Jesus of the Bible. So keep your relationship alive with the God who loves you so much and you and really the rest of us will notice the family resemblance you begin to share with this Jesus who the Bible declares is the Son of God. It won’t be your face or your smile or even your hair that gives it away...but it will be the changed heart that continues to become like his.
Here’s our Bible verse for today...
Romans 8:29 ERV God knew them before he made the world. And he decided that they would be like his Son. Then Jesus would be the firstborn of many brothers and sisters.
Remember I’m praying for you!
