America was going to the moon. But on January 27, 1967, astronauts Grissom, White and Chaffee were doing routine tests while in the Apollo spacecraft. There was nothing out of the ordinary happening when without warning, a spark from a frayed wire ignited the pure oxygen atmosphere in the Apollo capsule. The fire killed all three astronauts. The program was halted and there were congressional investigations that began to study whether this journeying to the moon was worth it. Astronaut Frank Borman was part of the committee that did the inquiry into this disaster. Borman was asked by the congressional committee to explain to them why this accident happened. They were expecting some kind of engineering response, but he said something completely different. When asked why this fire happened, Borman said “It was because of a lack of imagination”. The committee members were shocked and confused and asked him to explain what he had just told them. Borman said that all the astronauts knew that some day someone was going to be killed in the space program. It was just so dangerous and far reaching. But he told them that everyone “knew” that person would die in space, not just perched on a launch pad in Florida sitting in that capsule. He said no one was able to imagine that happening on the ground, in a routine test. We just couldn’t see that possibility. Sometimes that’s what we end up doing with God too. There are times when life doesn’t work out like we thought it would. And we find ourselves hurt or confused or just discouraged. And it is easy to think that God doesn’t really care or that God is more limited than we thought. But God says that you have not nor can you ...imagine the good and great things God is right now doing for you and through you while all you feel is confused, hurt or discouraged. There will be times when we cannot even imagine what God is doing because his thoughts are not like our thoughts and his ways are far beyond anything you and I could imagine. And it may not be until we are with him in heaven that you and I will look back on a particular event or even season of life and then can honestly say “I get it now!” So, until you get to heaven, you and I will need to just trust God...to put our faith in him and his goodness and love for us. And then someday, as he puts his arm around us and explains what was going on, it will all make great sense. But until then, remember that God, for all those who love him, is working out all things for his good. So, trust him with your situation today and remember that he is working for you because he loves you...and me...so much!
Here’s our Bible verse for today...
Isaiah 55:8-9 NLT “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. (9) For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
Remember I’m praying for you!
