Daily Devotional #1,581

The great American author and humorist, Mark Twain (Samuel Clemmons), once said “It ain't the parts of the Bible that I can't understand that bother me, it's the parts that I do understand.” I like that honesty. The Bible tells us about who we are and our brokenness and then it shows us the God of creation who is holy and loving and...well, narrow minded. His word tells us that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. And then tells us that the wages of our sin...is death! All that is pretty easy to grasp. And then the Bible quotes Jesus as saying “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except by me.” So whether or not you believe it, the Bible is pretty clear on what our situation is. And that we cannot correct that situation by ourselves. And on top of that, there is only one way that we can get out of the mess we are in. It is through this Jesus of the Bible and this Jesus alone. But then then we get to the place where it becomes difficult to understand...hard to grasp. Because then the Bible says that God so loved the world...that he gave his only begotten son. And that whoever believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life. God has loved us with a love that I don’t really understand. I don’t understand why? Why would he love me that much? I get my situation...and even God’s answer. But God loves me...and he loves you. He didn’t send his son into the world to condemn us...we already were condemned. We were lost and helpless. But he sent his son so that the world, that’s anyone, anywhere, any time...might be saved through him. I don’t know that I will ever really understand the “why” of his love for me...and for you...in this life. But it doesn’t bother me...it fills my heart with hope and joy and excitement. God loves me and wants me to be with him forever. And he wants you too. Don’t try to figure it out...just accept it and enjoy it today and for all your days until he brings you home.

Here’s our Bible verse for today...

John 3:16-17 EMTV For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (17) For God did not send His Son into the world so that He might condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

Remember I’m praying for you!
