Daily Devotional #1,574

I just got back from flying to the East coast and then back home here in California. I flew on four different airplanes and each time I got on a plane I had the same experience. I had booked my flights in what you would call coach class. That means that there are a lot of seats in a row and not a bunch of room. But each time I boarded a plane, I walked through first class. It was spacious with a lot less seats and they looked bigger and a lot more comfortable. But I knew that these folks had paid a lot more money to sit up front in that kind of comfort. The apostle Peter wrote two letters that are a part of the New Testament and he begins the second one saying “This letter is from Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to you who share the same precious faith we have.” I like the way that God led him to write that. When I read that I think about Peter who saw so many miracles first hand, was there at the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus and was given leadership responsibilities in sharing this good news with the world. But when I read that introduction, I don’t feel like Peter is telling me that he is up there in first class and is talking to all of us lesser ones in the coach seats. I hear him saying that we are all in this together. The first word he uses to describe himself is as a slave to Jesus Christ. We will have different gifts and different responsibilities and that will make the stories of our lives different. But we are all in this majestic work that God is doing...together. We don’t live to impress the world around us...we live our lives for an audience of one. That is this Jesus who died for our sins that we might accept his forgiveness and live with the God of the Bible forever. So remember that no matter what your journey with Him looks like, or how different or seemingly less important than others, we are all in this together. There is no class distinction between us. We are a family, a team, an army in which we all have a part that we need to embrace and live out to our fullest. And when this journey is over Peter says a few verses later “Then God will give you a grand entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” Hang in there and don’t let anyone or anything lead you to give up.

Here’s our Bible verse for today...
2 Peter 1:1 NLT This letter is from Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to you who share the same precious faith we have. This faith was given to you because of the justice and fairness of Jesus Christ, our God and Savior.

Remember I’m praying for you!
