Our relationship with God is based on faith. We are saved by grace through faith…we are to live by faith. But
what exactly is this faith? Someone once said that faith is the certainty that God will keep his word. That you
can depend on him. He went on to say that faith brings us to an uncomfortable encounter with God. There are
times when God brings us to a place where his will doesn’t fit our agenda…it is not what we want or think that
we ought to have. That’s when our faith becomes action. There is an old story about a guy who falls over a
cliff but manages to grab a vine growing out of the cliffside. He can’t make it up to the top and he can’t let go
or he will fall and die. In desperation he calls out “Is there anyone who can help me?” And a deep voice says,
“I can help you, my son.” The man says, “Who are you?” And the voice says, “I am God, and I will save you if
you do exactly what I tell you.” The man is filled with hope, and he says “Oh God thank you. I’ll do whatever
you say!” And the voice replies “Let go of the vine”. The man looks down to the bottom of the cliff and he
replies, “Is there anyone else up there?” Faith becomes real when we risk doing what God has told us to do.
Faith comes alive when take the risk and put our whole trust in the God who makes promises to us. Faith is the
key, but it has to lead to action. And we are reminded that the Bible tells us that without faith…it is impossible
to please God. So, if you are hanging from the vine today, remember that God may ask you to do something
that you just don’t want to do, or are afraid to do. But all God wants you to do is to believe that whatever he
will ask you to do will be for your good and will be a part of his plan for your life. Trust him.
Here’s our Bible verse for today…
James 2:24-26 NLT So you see, we are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by faith alone. (25) Rahab the prostitute is another example. She was shown to be right with God by her actions when she hid those messengers and sent them safely away by a different road. (26) Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works.
Remember I’m praying for you!
