Quail Lake Community Church

Daily Devotional #1,558

We had a short meeting after church and there one of our elders reminded us a bit of our church’s history and focused on our getting the campus that we now have. He talked about the people who were such a part of our church and who helped to start it and were instrumental in us getting the property we now enjoy. He listed a number of people who were all my friends and then even my mother. He told the group there that they were gone, but that their faith and work and sacrifice had given us so much. I was touched by that and late in the afternoon I was cleaning up in the garage and there was a box of odds and ends stuff that had been sitting forever and I decided to go through it. I found a couple of old memory sticks and brought them back to my computer and was able to pull up a number of pictures of different occasions of our family’s life together and then a number of them that were of people who had been in our church. They were the very people that had been talked about earlier in the day. I looked at one picture of a luncheon where I was with a group of 17 of us. I counted and 14 of them have died since that picture was taken. It was great to see and remember my old friends. We now have a whole group of folks in our church who will never really know or even know about these people who laid the groundwork for us as a family of faith. There are just three of us left out of that picture. I thought about their work, sacrifice and love that men and women and boys and girls are benefiting from my friends’ lives…and no one new knows their names. It was a reminder that none of us make this journey of faith totally on our own. There are those who have been a part of our journey and because of their impact on our hearts, they continue to be a part of our lives now. It is a reminder that when we live as servants of this Jesus of the Bible, God will use us…while we live and then the fruit of our labors will continue after we are gone. So, appreciate those whom you are sharing your life with now. And always remember that we all stand on the shoulders of all of those who have gone on before you and me. And after our own journey of faith here on this earth is over…may they speak of us in the same way.

Here’s our Bible verse for today…

2 Timothy 1:5 NLT I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you.

Remember I’m praying for you!
