Daily Devotional #1,540

My wife woke me up the other morning yelling “There’s water everywhere!” I stepped out on the floor and there wasn’t water there at least. She yelled again, that the hose to the toilet was broken and the bathroom was being flooded. I walked in there where she was and…there was water everywhere! I could hear it spewing at the base of the toilet tank and so I got down in the water and looked under the tank and sure enough the plastic fitting had just broken in half. I turned off the water and at least got that stopped. I flushed the toilet to get the water out of the tank and then started on the inch of water all over the bathroom floor. I did have a wet vac and in a half an hour we had the standing water up and fans drying out the rest. But we needed a plumber. Our plumber retired many years ago and we just hadn’t had need for one in all that time. So, the question was “Who you going to call?” We called some friends at our favorite hardware store, and they gave us the numbers of two plumbers that they use. I called one and he didn’t even have a voice mailbox to leave a message. So, I tried the other one and at least was able to leave a message. After I hung up, I thought about what a mess this was and I just didn’t have time that day for all this. And then I remembered what I always tell other people to do…first, pray…and pray about everything. So, sheepishly I told the Lord what I needed and no sooner than I hung up with God, I got a call from the plumber I left the message with. I told him what happened and that he had been recommended by some friends and when he had an opportunity would he come by. He said “I’ve been in Fresno this morning, but I’m about 5 minutes from your house…go stand outside and wave me down when I turn on your street. So out I went and sure enough, the van pulled up and there were two guys, and they were ready to make everything better. I explained the problem more fully and they said we’ll get some stuff out of the back of the van, and we’ll get you fixed up in a hurry. I walked to the back of the van and printed across the back two doors was “John 3:16” in huge lettering…It’s the verse…For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only son so that whoever believed in him would not perish but have eternal life.! I thought Wow…God not only answered…he sent one of his own people to take care of us! It took around 30 minutes, and they were done, all was cleaned up and they were paid and promises made to call them if we ever needed anything else. I like it when God makes a plan come together! So, the lesson that I relearned is…when you are asking that question “Who you going to call?” make your first call to God. You’re still probably going to need the plumber, but the God of the Bible promises that he will be with us in trouble, and he is ready to rescue us…just call on him…and he will always answer.

Here’s our Bible verse for today…

Psalms 91:15 NLT When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them.

Remember I'm praying for you,
PJ
