I remember as a kid getting to watch the animated film “Pinocchio” for the first time on the big screen. And
one of my favorite characters was Jiminy Cricket. Jiminy Cricket begins by telling the story of how he came to
Geppetto’s house for shelter but ends up witnessing the Blue Fairy give life to the wooden puppet Pinocchio.
Jiminy Cricket is spotted and given the job of being Pinocchio’s conscience and teaching him the difference
between good and evil so that he can become a real boy someday. And Jiminy sang the song “Let Your
Conscience Be Your Guide”. So many of us depend on Jiminy’s advice. We let our conscience be our guides to
what is right or wrong. The problem is that we don’t have to look very hard to find people who have done
horrible things in this life…and slept like babies at night. We have a conscience that can truly help us, but when
we continue to violate it, it no longer reflects the truth of what God has said. Yeah…God created us and he
created our consciences. So how do you protect your conscience? Watch to see what everyone is doing? Go
with your feelings? No…the key is to take time to be in God’s Word. It is there that we learn right and wrong
according to the one who created us and sustains us. So enjoy those classic animated films, but when it comes
to how do we decide what is good and what is evil…check out God’s word first. He will not only show us right
and wrong, but he will show us love and forgiveness and life free from the guilt of our sin…forever!
Here’s our Bible verse for today…
1 Timothy 1:19 NLT Cling to your faith in Christ, and keep your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result, their faith has been shipwrecked.
Remember I’m praying for you,
