Daily Devotional #1,520

I like hamburgers…a lot! Around here my favorite burger is at the In-N-Out drive in. To get to the closest one to my house, I have to drive about 20 minutes just to get there. The other day my oldest granddaughter was over at the house and was my “study buddy” for the afternoon and I kept thinking about those burgers and finally asked her if she would go with me and we would get them together. Without any hesitation she said “Yes!” I think she loves them as much as her grandpa does…or at least she loves them more than studying! We headed out and we talked about In-N-Out burgers, why we like them and how we were going to have ours made. We got there and went inside and ordered and brought them back to the car and headed back home as quickly as we could. The whole time all we could think of was that wonderful smell of those burgers. And when we finally got back to our house, we got to eat them…and loved them! We satisfied our craving for what we think are the best burgers around. I got to thinking about that and remembered what the Apostle Peter said about cravings. He said that we must crave…not burgers…but pure spiritual milk that God gives us, so we can grow up and really experience our salvation in this Jesus of the Bible like we are meant to. That pure spiritual milk…well, it is God’s word, the Bible. I like reading the Bible, but he says that you must crave it…that means that you hunger for it like you would the best hamburger ever! He says that we ought to even cry out for this nourishment. So don’t fill your soul up with all kinds of junk stuff from the world. Leave lots of room for God’s word and get to know it and get to love it …and yeah, get to craving it. It is God’s way of satisfying the deepest needs we will ever have as travelers journeying on this planet. Open that Bible and taste and see that the Lord is indeed good!

Here’s our Bible verse for today…

1 Peter 2:2-3 NLT Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, (3) now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.

Remember I’m praying for you,
PJ
