I read recently that according to a Gallup poll, 21 percent of Americans say that they go to a religious service
each week. And 41 percent say they attend at least monthly. Not exactly numbers to set my heart on fire. But
it gets even worse. Doing a survey using geodata from smartphones in 2019, they concluded that only 5% of
Americans actually go to some kind of religious service every week. And the data pointed to only 21% of
Americans actually went to a religious service once a month…which would only be 12 times a year! To put it
into baseball numbers…your “church batting average” would be .230. What that would work out to is that on
“Team America” we have only 26% who are batting .230 or better. If this were baseball…we’d be in a heap of
trouble! In the scriptures, we see that God is pretty adamant about us being in worship with other folks
(Hebrews 10:25). You and I both know that time is so precious. You can’t make more time and so it really is a
treasure. And Jesus said something about what we “treasure”. He said where you treasure is…that’s where the
desires of your heart really are. So, take a look at your church “batting average” and see what you come up
with. And maybe you’ll find that what you treasure most isn’t what you think it is. And the good news is that
you can treasure whatever you choose. Swim against the stream of our fellow Americans and plan to join others
in worship this week. You might just like it…and I know God will love it!
Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Matthew 6:21 NLT Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.
Remember I'm praying for you...
